#A DANCE OF FIRE AND ICE SERIES#

A lot has changed since I read the series the first time. Multiple authors and stories had aspects that I liked more than Martin's. And I remembered why I loved these books and characters. Then, a while ago, I just picked up A Game of Thrones again. I was also a bit happy I now had more right to call myself a fantasy fan. Conan, Elric of Melnibone, Earthsea, First Law, Cosmere.and so on. But this post isn't about Rand or Wheel of Time, so move on. Those who read Veins of Gold will undestand me. I realized it wasn't for everyone, but it was just so brilliant to me and it also helped me a lot in my life.and so did my new favorite character in all of fiction, Rand al'Thor. So I said: "I need more stories." So, I picked up Wheel of Time and spent a year on it. When pandemic started and I still wasn't over Westeros fatigue. I didn't think Martin would finish the story and it seemed tiring now. After the last season, my love for Westeros emed to fade. However, there was still no sign of The Winds of Winter and show started slowly, but surely, to decrease in quality. I loved it and, with more freedom growing around Internet and more people reading books, more discussion and theories came to be, and I was in for it.

It was my favorite in live-action of TV and Movies (if I could say it like that?) genre, along with Lord of the Rings movies. Euron especially was terrifying, and is still one of my favorite villains of all time.Įventually, of course, I watched the show, while continuing to do all those things from above. Joyful (sometimes twisted joy) to read and brilliant, all of them were so grounded and realistic it was impossible not to be enchanted by them. Jon and Tyrion were the most relatable characters to me and a joy to read, but everyone else was also so brilliant. I didn't feel any need to read anything else: I was happy being in Middle Earth and Westeros. Guilty pleasure here, but it was also the first story I started writing fanfiction for back then and the only one for a long time. I started visiting forums like and others, reading theories, writing notes and tried writing down lineages from the series and tried to draw a map of Westeros (something I didn't do for Middle Earth, though I loved it more) for my DnD campaign. The descriptions were intricate, history and world were rich and intriguing, plot was a page-turner and characters were brilliantly written. Weirdly, it was the most magical experience I had. I finished all the books (including Dunk and Egg novellas) in about six months. I looked up for summaries of first book and finally picked up A Clash of Kings from the library. Not all of Tolkien's works were available where I live, so the only alternative was to continue with what I started. I loved Middle Earth so much and finally my love for the books was born. It took me about a year to read all of Tolkien's works (or, at least ones that were available). It was, however, not the Grandad of modern fantasy, so I wanted to see first what is there all about and started Tolkien's Legendarium with Silmarillion. It was unlike any story I saw before, so it was perfect to me, and characters were unbelievably interesting. The book kept me intrigued and wanting to learn more and see what happens next. From prologue, I was hooked, terrified and interested. I must have been crazy because I read the entire book in seven days. The cover doesn't look like anything special today, but back then it was really beautiful to me and it got my interest. That was until I came upon A Game of Thrones in a shop one day. I was a fan of movies and comics, but no books. I was a nerd kid who still hadn't read any books outside of school lectures. When A Dance with Dragons came out I was approaching teen years. This will be a bit personal, so thank you for coming in.
